It was best for us to keep going, to forget who we were and where we came from.

While growing up, Sara Ajnnak could answer in the affirmative as regards all the signs that could, with some certainty, identify her as a Sámi. Reindeer, ties of kinship, and lifestyle, all constructs devised by colonial rulers, which served to divide the Sámi people.

Yet it was still there - the inferiority complex, that is, the feeling that being a Sámi made you worth less than others. In the musical "Sjávouöste buökttiet" (Revolution of Silence), artist Sara Ajnnak shares her story, which has been filmed by the documentary filmmaker Oskar Østergren and set to music by the music producer Fred Endresen.

The trio takes us on a journey in the wake of colonisation exploits in Sápmi.

The project is being funded by the Sámi Parliament of Sweden, the Sámi Parliament of Norway and the Arts Council of Sweden.
